The Summit County Sheriff’s Office launched the Justice Files, a weekly roundup of notable calls to service, on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024. The past week was filled with a variety of incidents that kept deputies on their toes.
One of the incidents involved a break-in near Breckenridge, where a homeowner returned to find her house ransacked and items missing. Deputies are still investigating and seeking witnesses to help solve the case.
Another call came from a child who reported a chicken being killed at a gas station, offering deputies a shotgun and knife for fingerprints. Despite the bizarre nature of the call, deputies were unable to locate anyone involved.
In a separate incident, a man sleeping in a condo building was accused of stealing shorts from a laundry room. After being confronted by deputies, the man admitted to doing laundry in the building, but no evidence of theft was found.
Additionally, Snapchat notified authorities of a user posting a threatening photo with a BB gun pointed at ski lifts. The man claimed it was a joke, but he was issued a summons for disorderly conduct.
A particularly alarming incident involved a man threatening a housekeeper with an ax, leading to his arrest for felony menacing and a restraining order. The Sheriff’s Office took swift action to ensure the safety of the victim.
