Charity Auction Raises $122K Selling Lab-Grown Diamond ‘Dream’ Necklace

At the recent Ormeley Dinner in London, a lab-grown diamond necklace stole the show, selling for a whopping $122,000. The stunning “Dream” necklace, featuring 54 lab-grown diamonds totaling 74.65 carats set in 18-karat white gold, was the highest grossing item of the evening.

Worn by celebrities like Gigi Hadid at the Met Gala and Catherine O’Hara at the Oscars, the necklace’s sale price of $122,000 translates to about $1,634 per carat, which is above the current per-carat average for lab-grown diamonds. Industry analyst Edahn Golan noted that the average retail price of a 1-carat lab-grown diamond is $1,059, significantly lower than natural diamonds of the same size.

The fundraiser, attended by notable individuals like former President of Botswana Ian Khama and singer Ellie Goulding, was in aid of animal conservation charities The Aspinall Foundation and Space for Giants. Smiling Rocks, the brand behind the exquisite necklace, has been supporting Space for Giants since 2020, working on projects to reduce human-elephant conflict and stop illegal wildlife activities.

The event raised an impressive £1.6 million, or $2 million, which will go towards protecting African habitats and preserving the planet’s species. Smiling Rocks expressed its pleasure in collaborating with such impactful charity organizations, contributing to the crucial work of conservation and community support.
