Kassidy Cook and Sarah Bacon make history with silver in women’s synchronized springboard diving

SAINT-DENIS, France — Kassidy Cook and Sarah Bacon made a splash at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on Saturday, winning silver in the women’s 3-meter synchronized springboard event. This victory secured America’s first medal of the games and marked the first time the U.S. has been on the podium in this event since 2012.

The duo, affectionately dubbed Cook N’ Bacon, credited their familiarity and friendship as key factors in their success. Cook, 29, who competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics, expressed her excitement at being able to perform well alongside her best friend and end up on the medal stand.

Bacon, 27, narrowly missed making the U.S. diving team for the Tokyo Olympics but viewed it as a blessing in disguise, as it kept her in the sport and led her to this moment of Olympic glory with Cook.

The gold in the event was claimed by the Chinese team of Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen, who led throughout the competition. Cook and Bacon acknowledged that the pressure from the powerhouse Chinese team pushed them to perform their best and ultimately secure the silver medal.

With this historic win, Cook and Bacon have not only made a mark in their own careers but have also brought pride to Team USA, marking a significant achievement in Olympic diving history.
