Iron Rod Distributors Push for Legal Action Against African Steel for Inferior Products

The Iron Rod and Steel Distributors Employers Union of Nigeria (IRSDEUN) has applauded the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) for taking a firm stand against the production of substandard products by sealing off African Steel Ltd in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The union, through its national president, Chief Gbenga Awoyale, praised SON for its decisive action and stressed the importance of maintaining quality standards in the industry.

In a statement obtained by LEADERSHIP, the union called on the federal government to prosecute the erring manufacturer in order to deter others from engaging in similar practices. According to Chief Awoyale, the sealing off of African Steel Ltd, which also owns African Foundries Ltd in Ikorodu and Abuja Steel Ltd, is a crucial step in safeguarding public safety and infrastructure.

The union emphasized the significance of quality control in the construction industry, highlighting the potential consequences of compromising standards. It urged the government to send a clear message to manufacturers who disregard regulations and compromise the integrity of their products.

As industry stakeholders, the union expressed solidarity with SON’s actions and emphasized the need for regulatory oversight to ensure the quality and safety of construction materials. The sealing off of African Steel Ltd serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding standards in the manufacturing sector and the union remains hopeful that this will serve as a deterrent to other offenders in the industry.
