Highland Copper Company Inc. has announced key updates at its Copperwood project and its joint venture with Kinterra Copper LLC, the White Pine North project. The company has re-initiated early site preparation work at Copperwood to advance stream relocation and wetland mitigation structures, while also presenting the project to the Michigan House and Senate for a proposed $50 million grant.
At White Pine, Highland’s joint venture partner, Kinterra Copper LLC, has initiated a second drill program to collect samples for engineering study test work and resource update purposes. Additionally, key engineering trade-off studies and environmental baselining have been initiated at White Pine.
Highland’s Copperwood project in Michigan has demonstrated a robust production potential of 64.6 million pounds of copper annually over an initial 11-year mine life. The project has significant leverage to copper price and opportunities to improve project economics.
Highland intends to advance Copperwood towards a construction decision in 2024 and is actively engaged in detailed engineering and project financing. The company’s joint venture partner, Kinterra, is making progress at White Pine with metallurgical and geotechnical testing to support further engineering studies.
Barry O’Shea, CEO of Highland Copper, expressed excitement about the progress at both projects, noting the strong copper market outlook. Highland remains committed to advancing its projects in Michigan and leveraging the positive copper fundamentals.
