The International Gemological Institute (IGI) has formed a strategic alliance with Charles & Colvard to issue grading reports for the company’s lab-grown moissanite. This partnership will ensure that the moissanite meets the highest standards for clarity, cut, and light performance measures.
IGI will grade the moissanite based on their regular standards, with a focus on clarity and cut. They will also incorporate their recently introduced light performance measures for round brilliant diamonds. In terms of color grading, only D and E stones will receive individual color grades, while the rest will have color ranges noted.
To prepare for these new reports, Charles & Colvard will increase the minimum clarity of their ForeverOne moissanite to VVS. This move aims to enhance the overall quality and value of their moissanite products. Additionally, all moissanite will be laser-inscribed by IGI for authenticity.
Although some in the lab-grown diamond market are questioning the need for grading reports due to price drops, Charles & Colvard believes that the IGI reports will add value to their moissanite. By holding themselves accountable and ensuring quality products, they aim to differentiate themselves in the market.
The new reports will initially accompany ForeverOne stones, with plans to extend to their less expensive ForeverBright stones in the future. This partnership highlights the commitment of both IGI and Charles & Colvard to provide consumers with high-quality lab-grown moissanite products.
