One Yellow Diamond Sells for a High Price at Auction while Another is Pulled from Sale

This week in the world of fine jewelry, two magnificent yellow diamonds stole the spotlight. The 202 ct. Yellow Rose diamond fetched an impressive $6.7 million at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale in Geneva. The auction, however, was overshadowed by a cyberhack that took down Christie’s website.

On the other hand, the 101.29 ct. fancy vivid Allnatt diamond was unexpectedly pulled from Sotheby’s auction at the last minute, despite its estimated value of $6.1 million to $7 million. The decision to retain the historic gem was made by the consignor.

Named after the renowned British collector Major Alfred Ernest Allnatt, the diamond was set as a stunning Cartier brooch and had not been on the market for nearly three decades. The gem’s rich history and rarity made it a highly anticipated piece at the auction.

Overall, both auctions yielded strong results with Christie’s sale bringing in $54.2 million and Sotheby’s bringing in $34.2 million. Sotheby’s saw particular success with a 37.61 ct. white diamond selling for $4.2 million, well above its estimated value.

Despite the ups and downs, it was a week filled with excitement and high-stakes bidding for these exquisite yellow diamonds in the world of luxury jewelry auctions.
