Step inside Buckingham Palace this summer and immerse yourself in the dazzling world of the Queen’s personal jewellery collection. From bracelets to tiaras to brooches, this exquisite display features pieces made from diamonds, emeralds, and pearls that have graced the Queen on numerous occasions.
Accompanying these stunning jewels are photographs taken by renowned society photographer Dorothy Wilding, showcasing the Queen wearing these iconic pieces. These images are not just beautiful portraits but have also been reproduced on stamps, banknotes, and coinage, making them instantly recognizable to people around the world.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is a photograph of the Queen wearing her Diamond Diadem, set with 1,333 diamonds, on the day of her coronation in 1953. This historic piece was originally made for George IV and has since become synonymous with the Queen’s royal image.
Wilding’s legacy as the first official female royal photographer is also celebrated in the exhibition, with images of a young Princess Elizabeth and her engagement portrait with Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten. The display also includes official photographs marking the Queen’s Silver, Golden, Diamond, and Platinum Jubilees over the years.
In addition to the royal jewels and photographs, visitors can enjoy a unique installation by artist Lucy Sparrow featuring a jubilee street party made entirely out of felt. This playful homage to the Queen’s reign adds a modern twist to the traditional display of regal splendor.
