Copper Shores Community Health Foundation Awards Grants to Local Organizations
The Copper Shores Community Health Foundation has recently awarded five organizations with the 2024 Small Grant Awards, totaling $7,800. These grants are designed to address health-related needs in the Copper Country and support events and opportunities that promote overall well-being.
Among the recipients of the grants are Barkell Elementary School, Equipment Loans of the Keweenaw, CLK Schools, Canterbury House, and the Ontonagon Artist Collective. Each organization received funding to support their respective projects aimed at improving the health and wellness of their communities.
Barkell Elementary School received nearly $1,800 to enhance their playground accessibility by adding ADA accessible swing sets. This project will ensure that all students have equal opportunities for outdoor play and physical activity.
Equipment Loans of the Keweenaw (ELK) was awarded $525 to upgrade their website and create brochures for better communication. ELK provides adaptive sports and recreation opportunities for individuals in the Keweenaw community.
CLK Schools received almost $1,000 for their Recess for Health program, which aims to promote physical activity and social development among students. The grant will be used to purchase sports equipment such as baseball bats, hockey nets, and basketballs.
Canterbury House, a support organization for international and LGBTQ+ students, will use their $2,500 grant to expand their food pantry assistance program. This initiative will help address food insecurity among vulnerable populations in the community.
The Ontonagon Artist Collective was granted $2,000 to support their Watercolor Wednesday program for senior citizens, as well as other creative events aimed at promoting mental wellness and social engagement.
The Copper Shores Community Health Foundation emphasizes the importance of measurable outcomes and community impact in the grant application process. Organizations seeking funding must demonstrate their ability to address health needs in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, or Ontonagon counties.
