ASTANA — The Zhambyl Region in Kazakhstan celebrated the technical launch of the Shatyrkol concentrating plant, a major milestone in the region’s mining industry. The plant has the capacity to produce 98,600 tons of copper concentrate annually and is expected to reach full capacity by the end of October.
With an investment of around 94 billion tenge ($198 million), the plant will process 1.2 million tons of ore each year, sourced from the Shatyrkol and Zhaisan fields. The project was led by AAEngineering Group LLP, a Kazakh company, highlighting the country’s commitment to developing its domestic industrial sector.
Nurakhmet Nuriyev, Chairman of the Board of Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, emphasized the importance of employing local residents, with nearly 350 people set to work at the factory. The implementation of the latest automated process control systems and environmentally friendly technologies, such as flotation and dust collection systems, ensures high production efficiency and safety standards.
The impressive launch of the Shatyrkol concentrating plant is part of a larger economic development plan for the Zhambyl Region. Over the next four years, 70 investment projects totaling 2.5 trillion tenge ($5.2 billion) are planned, with 19 projects worth 228.4 billion tenge ($480.5 million) set to be implemented this year alone.
The region’s mining industry, which currently boasts 125 operating enterprises, plays a significant role in the local economy, generating over 54.2 billion tenge ($114 million) in products in the first half of the year. With continued investment and expansion, the Zhambyl Region is poised for further growth and development in the years to come.
