WJMN reports new trail opening in Copper Country just in time for ORV season kickoff

Off-roading enthusiasts in the Keweenaw Peninsula have something to celebrate as one trail is back open after being washed out in the Father’s Day Flood six years ago. As trails in the region enter their second week of being open to the public, visitors are eager to explore the rugged terrain.

While state-owned trails have been accessible since April, many routes north of Calumet are on private land and open up a month later. This week, Visit Keweenaw is highlighting some must-visit trails in the area for those seeking adventure.

High Rock Bay beckons riders to the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, offering stunning views of Lake Superior and a rocky shoreline. Calumet Lake provides a picturesque setting for a break from riding, with opportunities for fishing and relaxation. Dreamland has seen trail repairs, reconnecting the community and providing new routes for snowmobilers and ORV riders.

Jesse Wiederhold of Visit Keweenaw emphasizes the importance of following rules, including the 25 MPH speed limits in residential areas. While encouraging people to explore the trails, safety remains a top priority.

For more information on the area’s ORV trails and what they have to offer, visitors can check out Visit Keweenaw’s website. With the summer season in full swing, now is the perfect time to experience the thrill of off-roading in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
