Outotec to provide Boliden in Norway with zinc concentrate direct leaching technology

Outotec, a leading provider of sustainable minerals and metals processing technologies, has announced a groundbreaking agreement with Boliden to deliver zinc concentrate direct leaching technology for the expansion of the Odda zinc production facilities in Norway.

The partnership between Outotec and Boliden signifies a significant investment in enhancing the capacity of the Odda zinc plant, with the aim of increasing production to 200,000 tonnes of zinc per annum. This expansion highlights Boliden’s commitment to sustainable operations and adherence to strict environmental regulations.

Outotec’s innovative solution includes the delivery of zinc concentrate direct leaching and iron precipitation technologies, as well as site services essential for the expansion project. The contract value for such solutions typically ranges between EUR 10-20 million, demonstrating the magnitude of this collaboration.

The successful implementation of Outotec’s direct leaching process at the Odda zinc plant since 2004 has established it as a benchmark for low emissions, high metal recoveries, and operational safety. The upcoming deliveries and services provided by Outotec are scheduled for completion by 2016.
