Graphite One CEO and President, Anthony Huston, had the honor of representing his company at a White House meeting hosted by President Joe Biden focused on investment and job creation, particularly within the critical mineral sector. The meeting took place just hours before President Biden signed an Executive Order imposing a 25% tariff on Chinese imports, including natural graphite.
This move is seen as a strategic decision to protect American workers and businesses from China’s unfair trade practices, particularly in sectors like natural graphite and permanent magnets, where China holds a dominant position. Graphite One, recognizing the importance of securing a U.S.-based supply chain for graphite, is excited to continue its efforts in this direction.
As part of their commitment to a domestic supply chain, Graphite One has been making significant progress in their battery anode active material production plant planning sessions in Ohio. Additionally, the company has been advancing its projects with the Department of Defense, including the development of alternative fire suppressant materials and the completion of a feasibility study for their Graphite Creek deposit in Alaska.
With the United States currently entirely dependent on graphite imports, Graphite One’s efforts to establish a complete U.S.-based supply chain highlight the importance of securing critical minerals for national security and clean energy goals. The White House’s recognition of projects like Graphite One’s underscores the significance of industrial investment, job creation, and technological development in the renewable energy transition.
