Graphite Art Center debuts ‘Eight Inches By’ exhibition

The latest exhibit at Graphite Art Center, titled “Eight Inches By,” has brought together 99 artworks from 58 local artists, each showcasing at least one dimension that measures 8 inches. The soft opening for this unique show was on Thursday, May 16 during the Edmonds Art Walk, followed by an artist reception the next day with over 100 attendees.

Gallery Director Tara Shadduck shared that the inspiration for the exhibit came from the 6x6NW show presented by Shorelake Arts. She wanted to create a community exhibit that would be accessible to all, even offering free entry to students under 18. Ultimately, she settled on the 8-inch requirement after experimenting with various sizes and realizing that anything smaller would not be impactful on the gallery walls.

The exhibit features a diverse range of artworks, from sculptures and paintings to intricate wire work and abstract pieces. Edmonds Artist Ken Ketchum was awarded the Curator’s Choice Award for his striking 50-inch-long painting titled “Enter the Dragon,” which captivated viewers with its Chinese dragon motif and vibrant colors.

Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite artwork to determine the recipient of the People’s Choice Award. With several pieces already sold, art enthusiasts are invited to explore the exhibit and support local artists. For more information, visit Graphite Art Center’s website.
