Dynexus achieves validation for lithium battery monitoring technology – BizWest

Dynexus Technology Inc. has made a significant breakthrough in battery technology with the validation of its iRIS sensor for early detection of thermal runaway in Lithium-ion batteries. A recent study conducted by Sandia National Laboratories demonstrated the superiority of Dynexus Technology’s technology in detecting malfunctions in batteries.

The study revealed that the iRIS sensor had a distinct advantage over traditional gas sensors in identifying a malfunctioning cell, providing a warning time that was more than three times longer. This early detection capability allows for quicker interventions to prevent further damage, highlighting the importance of active monitoring in preventing lithium-ion battery fires.

“We are thrilled with the performance of the iRIS sensor in the Sandia National Laboratory study,” said Jon Christophersen, Chief Technology Officer of Dynexus Technology. The technology, initially developed at Idaho National Laboratories in collaboration with Montana Tech, can monitor the state of charge, state of health, and state of stability of batteries in real-time.

Dynexus Technology’s iRIS sensors generate rich frequency-based battery data, providing valuable information about the physico-chemistry of batteries. This technology is set to revolutionize battery management systems in both land-based and airborne electric platforms, offering active energy management capabilities to enhance safety and efficiency.

With the increasing concerns surrounding lithium-ion battery fires, the ability to actively monitor and manage battery performance is critical. Dynexus Technology is leading the way in commercializing active energy management systems with advanced capabilities to ensure the safety and reliability of battery-powered devices.
