Single-lane ban on Route 50 in Collier Township this Sunday

Attention motorists in Collier Township – a new one-lane restriction will be implemented starting Sunday on Washington Pike (Route 50) as part of an ongoing widening project. PennDOT has announced that the restriction will affect westbound Washington Pike between the I-79 interchange and Vanadium Road. This is to facilitate utility relocation work and will be in effect every evening from 7pm to 6am, with the possibility of daytime restrictions between 9am and 3.30pm.

The restrictions are slated to last until early June, so drivers are advised to be mindful of changing traffic patterns and exercise caution in the area. The $5.61 million widening project, which commenced in November 2022, is projected to wrap up by the end of 2024. Plans include expanding the roadway to accommodate exclusive left turn lanes at the Washington Pike intersection with Vanadium Road. Additionally, the intersection will undergo improvements, with the removal of double ramps at Eat’n Park to make way for a new restaurant building set further away from the road.

In addition to these upgrades, new sidewalks, ADA ramps, traffic signal enhancements, signage and pavement markings updates, as well as drainage and guide rail work, will be part of the construction efforts.
